The Jordan School was founded in 1984 as Crockett Episcopal School, by a group of concerned parents who wanted to provide an academically challenging alternative to public education in Houston County. The school first offered classes and was granted probationary accreditation by the Texas Education Association in 1984-85. Full TEA accreditation was received in 1985-86, and is currently accredited by the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools.
By 1987-88 the school enrolled students in preschool through grade five. In order to expand, an amicable separation was effected between the school and All Saint's Episcopal Church of Crockett. As part of the separation, the name of the school was changed to the Jordan School in honor of Grace Arledge Jordan, a donor of land to the school and church.
Jordan School currently serves students from preschool through sixth grade. The main building of the school was constructed in 1989 and houses first through sixth grades, a science lab, computer lab, library, administrative offices and dining/all purpose room. Fine arts, preschool, pre-kindergarten, and extended day, and Spanish classes are housed in buildings adjacent to the main structure. In 2002, a gymnasium was constructed on campus to provide space for physical education classes.
Academic excellence within a Christian context has always been the foremost goal of Jordan School. Although leadership, church affiliation and enrollment numbers have changed, the school's mission has remained constant since 1984.
